Badgers open 2024 campaign ranked in top-20 in USTFCCCA Coaches Poll


MADISON, Wis. The Wisconsin men’s cross country team will start the year ranked No. 13, while the women’s team will begin at No. 19, according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches Poll announced on Tuesday. 

The Badgers are one of nine teams with both men’s and women’s cross country teams ranked in the top 20 of the preseason poll. They are also the only Big Ten Conference team in the rankings.

The Wisconsin men will compete against 15 of the top-30 teams, while the women will face 13 of the top-30 teams at the 2024 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour on Sept. 27 at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison.

On the men’s side, the Badgers return Bob Liking, a three-time Big Ten Conference Individual Champion, and 2024 Olympian Adam Spencer. For the women, Leane Willemse, who was the runner-up in the 6k at the 2023 Big Ten Championships, will also return.

The Badgers 2024 season opens on Friday, Sept. 6, with the Badger Classic at the Zimmer Championship Course, with races beginning at 4:00 p.m.
