ACC Cross Country Ready to Open Season on Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – As the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country season gets underway this weekend, 13 teams throughout the league will be in action, including newcomers Cal, SMU and Stanford.
 
Earlier this week, the NC State women and North Carolina men were picked by the league’s head coaches as favorites to win the 2024 ACC Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Championships, respectively. The Wolfpack have won a league-record eight consecutive ACC Women’s Cross Country Championships, while North Carolina won its first ACC Men’s Cross Country Championship since 1985 last year.
 
The NC State women also sit atop the USTFCCCA Preseason Coaches Poll, logging five first-place votes, while Notre Dame comes in at No. 3, garnering one first-place vote. Stanford sits at No. 7 nationally, while Virginia begins the season at No. 17. Boston College is slotted at No. 21, North Carolina enters at No. 28 and Syracuse rounds out a contingent of seven ranked ACC teams at No. 29.
 
On the men’s side, Notre Dame leads at the ACC grouping at No. 6, while league favorite North Carolina is slotted at No. 7. Stanford starts the season at No. 10, Wake Forest sits at No. 19, Syracuse joins the poll at No. 22 and Virginia rounds out the ACC’s six-team grouping at No. 23.
