STILLWATER, Okla. (theACC.com) – Ranked No. 1 throughout the season, Katelyn Tuohy and the NC State women lived up to their billing at the 2022 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

With Tuohy claiming the gold medal and Kelsey Chmiel taking the bronze, the Wolfpack took home another national title championship Saturday morning the Greiner Family Cross Country Course.

The Wolfpack’s second consecutive NCAA crown is the fourth for an Atlantic Coast Conference team in women’s cross country. Virginia also claimed back-to-back titles in 1981 and 1982. The national title is the fourth overall for NC State, which claimed back-to-back AIAW championships in 1979 and 1980.

Tuohy used a strong closing kick to overtake Florida’s Parker Valby and crossed the line with a 6K course-record time of 19:27.7.

Tuohy becomes the eighth all-time women’s champion from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the first since Notre Dame’s Molly Seidel in 2015.

NC State, which finished with 114 team points to place 26 ahead of second-place New Mexico, was the first of four ACC teams to place among the top 10. North Carolina delivered a program-best fifth-place showing, while Notre Dame was seventh and Virginia ninth.

Florida State followed in 18th place and Syracuse finished 23rd.

NC State, under the watch of veteran head coach and former Wolfpack All-American Laurie Henes, made its national-leading leading 36th appearance in the NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championship field. Saturday marked the program’s 17th top-10 NCAA finish and the seventh in the last eight years. It was the Wolfpack’s 13th top-five NCAA finish and 10th podium (top-four) finish.

Two more NC State runners joined Tuohy and Chmiel in earning All-America status (top 40) as Samantha Bush placed 15th (19:57.6) and Nevada Mareno (20:07.5) was 29th. The following ACC women also claimed All-America honors on Saturday:
