Tennessee Cross Country Surges in Latest USTFCCCA Poll

NEW ORLEANS – Following a historic sweep of the NCAA South Region titles, the Vols and Lady Vols leaped up the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association poll released Monday.

 

The Lady Vols moved up four spots to No. 11 – their highest ranking since 2004. Last weekend, the women captured their first South Region crown since 2005. The victory punched their ticket to the national meet, marking the Lady Vols’ first appearance at the NCAA Championships since 2006.

 

For the men, Tennessee surged six spots in the USTFCCCA poll to No. 15. The Vols captured consecutive South Region championships last weekend – winning back-to-back region titles for the first time since 1994-95. With the automatic qualifying spot, the men are making back-to-back trips to the NCAA meet for the first time since 2001-02.

 

With their regional titles, both teams will race on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. It is the first time both teams have qualified for the national meet since 2005.

 

The national meet opens with the women’s 6K race at 10:20 a.m. ET, followed by the men’s 10K race at 11:10 a.m. Fans not in attendance can catch all the championship action on ESPNU with coverage beginning at 9:30 a.m.
