Track Central: KTCCCA College Opener / Sharon-Colyear Danville Season Opener


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee’s 2023-24 indoor track & field campaign kicks off Saturday with 10 distance runners splitting up for the KTCCCA College Opener (Louisville, Ky.) and the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener (Boston, Mass.).
 
Seven middle-distance specialists will toe the line in Louisville, including freshmen Ka’Myya Haywood, Carter Knox and Adam Snoke making their collegiate debuts for the Big Orange. Carolyn Barksdale, Kameron Helmlinger, Michael Rodriguez-King and Maia Stewart are also set for their season debuts at the KTCCCA College Opener.
 
Haywood and Stewart are entered in the women’s 600-meter dash on Saturday, scheduled to begin at 2:10 p.m. ET. Helmlinger, Knox, Rodriguez-King and Snoke will all compete in the men’s 800-meter at 3:30 p.m., followed by Barksdale beginning her senior season in the women’s 800-meter at 3:35.
 
Live results from Louisville’s Norton Healthcare Sport and Learning Center will be provided by DC Timing.
 
A trio of distance runners will represent Tennessee in Boston for the men’s 3,000-meter at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University. Dalton Hengst, a graduate transfer from Ole Miss, and Pavel Vinduska, a true freshman from the Czech Republic, are set to make their UT debuts on Saturday, while sophomore Yordanos Zelinski makes his indoor season debut after a promising freshman campaign in 2022-23. The men’s 3k heats will begin at 3:05 p.m. ET.
 
The Sharon-Colyear Danville Season Opener will be broadcasted online via FloTrack, with live results provided by Lancer Timing Services.
 

The Big Orange track & field program returns to action after the holiday break with the Commodore Open (Nashville, Tenn.) and Gamecock Opener (Columbia, S.C.), both scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12-13.
