First Star Names Announced for the 116th Millrose Games

The 116th Millrose Games, the most recognized indoor track and field event in the world, is now less than two months away. Taking place at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, Millrose is scheduled for Sunday, February 11th.

The first wave of athlete announcements includes many of the top superstars in all of global athletics, with many more still to come. Here are some of the early announced stars to look out for when the Millrose Games returns to The Armory’s track:

-Yared Nuguse returns to the Wanamaker Mile after stealing the show with his victory this past year. Nuguse ran 3:47.38 in that race to shatter the American record, also setting the second fastest mark in world history. After adding the outdoor American mile record to his resume in September, Nuguse will take aim at Yomif Kejelcha’s indoor world record of 3:47.01.

-Reigning 1500m world champion Josh Kerr will race the two mile distance. Kerr won the 3000m at last year’s Millrose Games in a meet and facility record, and he will now look for a second consecutive victory, this time running one lap further. The world record of 8:03.40, held by fellow Brit Mo Farah, is certainly on the table. Most recently, Kerr won the gold medal in the 1500m at the 2023 World Championships.

-Jamaican star Danielle Williams will headline the 60m hurdles, following her gold medal winning performance in the 100m hurdles at the 2023 World Championships. Williams is two-time world champion, having also won gold eight years earlier in 2015, and she is a force to be reckoned with in any hurdles race that she enters.

-The field events will feature a world champion and one of the sport’s greats, with the entry of Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh in the high jump. Mahuchikh is the defending gold medalist, following two silver medals at the previous two world championships, as well as being an Olympic bronze medalist. She also is the national record holder both indoors and outdoors.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more athlete announcements as the fields for the 116th Millrose Games continue to come together.
