COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 14, 2024) – With the outdoor season beginning, South Carolina Track & Field freshman phenom JaMeesia Ford continues to rake in the hardware from her success during the indoor season. Ford was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Track Athlete of the Year, as announced on Thursday afternoon.

Ford, who hails from Fayetteville, N.C., capped an undefeated season at 200 meters with a dominant victory at the 2024 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships. She turned one lap of the track in Boston in 22.34 to cement her status as the fourth-fastest performer in collegiate history behind two past winners of The Bowerman. Ford, a Bowerman Watch List candidate, also ran the anchor leg on the title-winning 4×400 relay in Boston, helping the Gamecocks turn in a time of 3:26.20 for the crown. Ford made her presence felt early on when she traversed 300 meters in 35.83 for the second-fastest performance in collegiate history in her collegiate debut at the Clemson Opener. From there, the reigning SEC Women’s Freshman Runner of the Year continued her dominance.

The Gamecocks are currently competing in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. this weekend.
