#10 Lady Vols Post Eight Qualifying Marks On Day Two of NCAA East Prelims

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 10th-ranked Lady Vol track & field squad totaled eight qualifying performances out of the first-round running events on an overcast Thursday in Lexington, Kentucky, at the 2024 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. UT advanced two runners each in the 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash and 400-meter dash while one athlete moved on in both the 400-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash.

Graduate student Dennisha Page was UT’s lone double qualifier to the sprint quarterfinals, posting a time of 11.12 in the 100-meter and 22.70 in the 200-meter to place fifth and sixth in those prelims, respectively.

Page will be joined in the 100-meter quarterfinals by sixth-year senior Joella Lloyd, who booked her spot to the next stage with a time of 11.37 that placed third in Heat 3 of the first round and 18th overall. Tennessee was one of five schools with multiple qualifiers in the women’s 100-meter on Thursday at the regional meet.

In the women’s 400-meter first round, Tennessee standouts Brianna White and Javonya Valcourt cruised to heat victories to secure automatic qualification for the quarterfinals. White took a lap around the oval in 51.58 seconds for the third-fastest time of the afternoon, while Valcourt’s mark of 51.82 placed seventh in the field. The duo is one of seven sets of teammates set to represent their respective institutions in the NCAA East Region 400-meter quarterfinals on Saturday.

Fifth-year senior Kyla Robinson-Hubbard handled her business in the 400-meter hurdles with another heat victory, turning in a time of 56.78 out of Lane 3 to automatically advance to the East quarterfinals for the second year in a row. In the 100-meter hurdles, a pair of Lady Vols grabbed the final two qualifying spots on time as Kiara Smith (13.39) and Myla Greene (13.43) placed 23rd and 24th in the field, respectively.

After a four-and-a-half hour weather delay prior to the women’s 10,000-meter semifinal, three Lady Vols earned top-20 finishes and narrowly missed the top-12 qualifying window for the NCAA Championships. Graduate student Emily Covert was 14th in 33:15.92, followed by junior Rachel Sutliff in 18th with a personal-best time of 33:26.40. Freshman Caroline Lyerly made her NCAA postseason debut with a time of 33:30.91, placing 20th in the region.
