Spencer earns First-Team Academic All-America honors


MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men’s track and field standout and 2024 Olympian Adam Spencer was named a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators on Wednesday. 

Spencer, a junior, holds a 3.69 GPA with a major in Finance, Investment, and Banking. The native of Melbourne, Australia, was named the USTFCCA Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year following his third-place finish in the 1500 meters at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also holds the Big Ten Championship title in the 800 meters and won the Australian Athletics Championships in the 1500 meters, winning the Australian national title with a season-best time of 3 minutes, 37.68 seconds. The Melbourne, Australia native broke the indoor school record in the mile back in February at the coveted Millrose Games with a time of 3:52.70 and set the school standard in the 1500 meters last summer thanks to a time of 3:31.81 at the London Diamond League event. 

Spencer has recently earned a spot on Team Australia for the 2024 Olympic Games, the nation’s Olympic federation announced Monday.  He will compete in the first round of the 1500 meters on Aug. 2.
