Honorary Life Members list

scottishathletics were sad to learn recently of the passing of William (Bill) Grant – one of our Honorary Life Members.

Bill’s family have forwarded us a short tribute and details of Bill’s funeral – being held on Friday 16 August in Edinburgh.

‘The Grant family are sad to announce the passing of William (Bill) Grant who died peacefully at home aged 96 on Sunday 28 July

‘As a young man, Bill joined Edinburgh Southern Harriers at Fernieside and competed for many years in track and road-relay events but his passion was always cross-country.

‘When his running days were over, he became an active volunteer at any type of athletics event. He was also delighted to have volunteered at the 1970 and at the 1986 Commonwealth Games at Meadowbank Stadium, where he officiated on the Wind Gauge.

‘After volunteering for more than 40 years, he was appointed an Honorary Life Member of Scottish Athletics in 2010.

‘He continued to volunteer throughout his eighties and finally retired in 2017 at the age of 91. The friendships he developed within the athletics community endured throughout his life as did his passion for the sport.

‘A funeral service for Bill will be held at Mortonhall Crematorium, Pentland Chapel on Friday 16 August at 11:30am to which all are very welcome.’

Sending our condolences to the family and all Bill’s friends in athletics.
