ACC Announces Week 1 Cross Country Honors


GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The following runners have been recognized as ACC Cross Country Performers of the week following their standout performances during the season-opening weekend.
 
ACC’s Men’s Performer of the Week – Ferghal Curtin, Gr., Florida State
The Charleston Southern transfer made his debut in the Garnet and Gold by winning Covered Bridge Open. He was the lone runner to break the 25-minute barrier with a winning time of 24:52.25 in the 13-team race that featured more than 145 runners. He won by nine seconds to lead the Seminoles’ first-place team effort.
 
ACC Women’s Performer of the Week – Margot Appleton, So., Virginia
After a standout freshman campaign in 2021, Appleton led from wire to wire in her first action of 2022, fending off Georgetown’s Grace Jenson by one-tenth of a second in a dead heat finish capture the Richmond Spider Alumni Invitational 4K with a time of 13:23.4.  Appleton led a strong Cavalier pack effort that keyed Virginia to a first-place finish in a 15-team field that included the 17th-ranked Hoyas.
 
ACC Women’s Freshman of the Week – Anna Corcoran, Fr. Duke
Corcoran opened her collegiate career at the Elon Open with a strong race, notching a fifth-place finishing time of 13:58.6 on the 4K course that led all freshmen. The Arlington, Virginia, native was the second Blue Devil to cross the finish line.
