Moreno, Smith Represent Mississippi State At 2022 SEC Career Tour

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference has announced the 27 student-athletes that will participate in the SEC Career Tour in Atlanta, Georgia, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1. Mississippi State will be represented by Samuel Smith (track and field) and Shea Moreno (softball).

This marks the sixth time (2016-19, 21-22) student-athletes from each SEC university will convene in Atlanta to participate in the Career Tour leading up to the SEC Football Championship Game. The event was held virtually in 2020.

Smith, a sprinter from McDonough, Georgia, posted a top-20 finish in all six of his 400m hurdles races in the 2022 outdoor season. He clocked a personal-best 52.81 in the event at the SEC Outdoor Championships. A sophomore business major, Smith has spent the fall semester as an intern with MSU’s broadcast and live events department assisting with SEC Network broadcasts of Bulldog sporting events.

Moreno, a senior infielder from Sacramento, California, played in 60 games for the Bulldogs this spring, making 56 starts. She hit .315 in SEC play, which was third on the team and finished the year third on the team in doubles. She delivered one of the biggest hits of her career in the Bulldogs’ regional championship win at No. 2 Florida State, sparking the game-winning rally by advancing the tying and winning runs to second and third. She is majoring in business.

The goal of the career tour is to provide exposure for SEC student-athletes who are seeking career opportunities in various fields. The program allows student-athlete to connect with human resource recruiters and submit resumes for entry-level jobs, internships and gain valuable knowledge of professional branding.

The group is scheduled to visit the headquarters and meet with executives at several corporations and organizations in the Atlanta area including Mercedes Benz Stadium, Cox Enterprises, KPMG, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Mercedes Benz USA and Lockheed Martin.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and a panel of former Career Tour participants will also meet with the group.
