Katelyn Tuohy doubles up on awards after record-breaking weekend

RALEIGH — After a record-breaking weekend, NC State junior Katelyn Tuohy adds more accolades to her collection.

On Tuesday the Stony Point, NY native was named the USTFCCCA National Female Athlete of the Week, as well as the ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Week.

Saturday at the Dr. Sander Invitational, Tuohy set an NCAA record in the mile, finishing with a time of 4:24.26. The previous record was 4:25.91, set by Jenny Simpson of Colorado in 2009.

The junior has gotten off to a strong start this indoor season. In December, she ran the 5000m in 15:15.92 at the Boston University Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener. That mark is currently No. 1 in the nation.

In just two seasons, Tuohy already has two NCAA titles (outdoor 5000m, cross country) and is a six-time All-American.
