Stieve, Bellino and Crouch win events at USF Bulls Invitational


TAMPA, Fla. – The Wisconsin women’s track and field team wrapped up the opening weekend of the outdoor season in the state of Florida. The Badgers competed at the USF Bulls Invitational on Friday and Saturday, winning three events over the weekend. 

Day one of competition 

Two Badgers highlighted day one of competition with first-place finishes. 

Graduate student Danielle Bellino made her outdoor season debut by winning the 800 meters.  She crossed in 2:08.35 for the win. Three athletes found themselves on the podium in the 5,000 meters as Samantha Stieve finished in 16:38.96, winning the race. Alexa Westley came in second with a time of 16:39.23, followed by Danielle Orie finishing third at 16:41.24. 

UW had back-to-back finishers in a the hammer throw and javelin throw. Abby Peeler and Chikere Oduocha finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the hammer throw with tosses of 165-8 and 164-5. Mackenzie Heyroth and Shaina Zinter also found themselves finishing next to each other in the javelin throw. Heyroth finished sixth at 127-4 and Zinter seventh with a throw of 123-1. 

Sophomore Julia Moore started her outdoor season on a high note as she placed fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-9 ½. 

Also in the field events, graduate student  Armoni Brown placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 19-3 ¼. 

Day two of competition 

Lucina Crouch led the way for UW on the second day of competition as she won the 2000-  meter steeplechase in 6:39.78. 

Two athletes finished in the top five of the discus throw. Josie Schaefer finished second with a throw of 168-7 and Danni Langseth finished fifth with a toss of 158-1. 

In the 100 meter dash, two Badgers earned top-10 finishes with Kiley Robbins finishing fourth with a time of 11.45, just a hundredth of a second shy of beating her personal best time. Taylor Gilling rounded out top finishers with an eighth-place finish in the 100 meter dash in 11.79. 

Up Next

The team will travel to Stanford, California, for the Stanford Invitational on March 31, and April 1.
