CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior standout Maddy Elmore turned in a runner-up performance Saturday at the XC-23 Pre Nationals meet at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. In the team race, the No. 17 UO women placed five inside the top 40 on their way to a fourth-place finish with 117 points.

Running back among the pack through the early stages of the race, Elmore moved into the top 10 by the 3K mark to join the lead group. She eventually moved second and held on to the spot, crossing the finish line in 19:47.0 in the rainy conditions. Elmore has been the top UO runner in each of the past two races, including the Dellinger Invitational (Sept. 22) in Springfield.

Izzy Thornton-Bott and Klaudia Kazimierska were the second and third Ducks across the line, finishing in 14th and 26th places, respectively. Thornton-Bott recorded a 6K time of 20:15.9 in a second top-15 outing of the season. Kazimierska, the team’s fifth runner at the Dellinger, finished in 20:37.7 during Saturday’s race to improve her scoring position.

The Ducks’ top-five lineup was rounded out by Katie Clute and Ella Nelson. Clute, the UO freshman from Olmsted Township, Ohio, has now been among the team’s top four in the first three races of her career. She finished in 20:49.0, just ahead of Nelson who was less than a half a second behind her teammate.
