NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field opens its season at home when it hosts the Commodore Challenge Friday and Saturday at the David Williams II Recreation Center.
Competing teams include Arkansas State, Austin Peay State, Belmont, Cumberland, Evansville, Indiana, Illinois, Lipscomb, Murray State, Ole Miss, Savannah College of Art and Design (Atlanta), Tennessee, UT Martin, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Trevecca, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky, William Carey and York College of Pennsylvania.
Friday’s field events are set to begin at noon, and running events will begin at 5 p.m. The meet will be streamed on SEC Network+ Friday and Saturday, and live results are available online.
Team Notes:
– Director of cross country and track and field Althea Thomas is now in her third season with the Commodores.
– Since the conclusion of the 2023 track and field season, Vanderbilt has made four additions to their coaching staff—Cameia Alexander (sprints, hurdles), Mallory Mulzer (distance), John Newell (throws), Harold Rose (high jump, pole vault).
– Two Dores who earned All-America honors in 2023 are returning to the track and field this season. Veronica Fraley was a second-team selection in the outdoor shot put, and Allyria McBride earned second-team honors in the 4000-meter hurdles.
– Twenty marks by active Vanderbilt student-athletes rank in the program’s indoor all-time top 10 in individual events.
