Badgers compete at NCAA Indoor Championships


MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s and women’s track and field team wrap up the indoor season by sending 12 athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston, Massachusetts. The championships run from Thursday-Saturday at The Track at New Balance. The women’s weight throw kicks off competition on Thursday at 7 p.m. Men’s events begin at 11 a.m. CT on Friday, while women’s events start at 6 p.m. CT.  Men’s events begin at 1:45 p.m. CT on Saturday, while women’s events start at 6 p.m. CT. The championships will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Here are five events to watch this weekend:

1. THROWING DOWN WITH THE BADGERS: Two Badger women are competing in the weight throw, Olivia Roberts and Chloe Lindeman – after finishing second and fourth, respectively, at the Big Ten Championships. Lindeman heads into the weekend ranked ninth in the nation with a personal best of 73-6 ¼ (22.41m), while Roberts is ranked 11th with a throw of 72-9 ¼ (22.18m). The weight throw begins at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday. 

On the men’s side, Jason Swarens and Andrew Stone make their first NCAA indoor appearances this weekend in the shot put. Swarens is tied for sixth nationally with a mark of  65 feet, 4 3/4 inches (19.93m), and Stone is ranked 10th at 64-10 (19.76m). The two will compete at 1:45 p.m. CT on Saturday. 

2. SEVEN-SECOND RACE: Senior Kiley Robbins broke her own school record, running a time of 7.22 seconds in the 60 meters at the Big Ten Championships. Robbins won her first Big Ten championship in the event and ranks 14th nationally.  She will compete in the semifinals beginning at 6:18 p.m. CT on Friday, with the finals to take place on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. CT.

3. GOING THE DISTANCE: Junior Adam Spencer makes his second appearance at NCAA Indoors after finishing 15th in last year’s mile finals. Spencer broke the school record in the event this season with a time of 3:52.70, good for fourth fastest in the nation. The Australian defended his mile title at this year’s Big Ten Championships, winning the event for a second consecutive year. He’ll compete in the semifinals on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with the final on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. 

Senior Jackson Sharp is set to compete in the 5000 meters as well. Sharp won the 5000 meters and 3000 meters at the Big Ten…
