Badgers have strong day at Stanford and LSU

MADISON, Wis – The Wisconsin men’s track & field team split up for two meets on Friday, including the Stanford Invitational and the Battle of the Bayou, hosted by LSU. Distance runners took the track in Stanford while sprinters, throwers and jumpers competed in Baton Rouge.

Jackson Sharp and Logan Measner started the day off at Stanford with a bang in the 5000 meters. Up against a loaded field, Sharp and Measner recorded top-three finishes in their sections, along with Josh Truchon and Evan Bishop, who finished in the top 10. Sharp was the runner-up in his section, crossing the line in 13 minutes, 44.50 seconds while Measner took third at 13:52.13, setting a new personal best. Truchon finished ninth in 13 minutes, 57.33 seconds, while Bishop placed 10th at 14:00.61 in his first race since the fall cross-country season.

Andrew Casey and Max Hartke continued the momentum in Palo Alto during the 1500 meters. Casey, a freshman, won his heat in 3:51.15 seconds. Hartke came in with a top-10 finish, placing seventh at 3:53.57.

Field events were the highlight at LSU, as athletes in the javelin, hammer throw, and long jump recorded top-10 finishes. Jacob Zednik led the Badgers in the javelin, placing seventh with a throw of 186-9 (56.94m). Zednik launched a personal best last week to land at No. 9 on the UW top-10 list. Multi-event specialist Cade Amborn followed up in ninth with a throw of 181-1 (55.19m).

Jacob Bugella placed ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 200-11 (61.24m). He recorded a mark over 60 meters for the second week in a row, following a top-10 UW finish last week at LSU.

Justin Kiefel ended the day on a high note in the long jump. He placed 10th with a leap of 23-5 ¼ (7.14m) to kick off his 2024 outdoor season.
