Clemson Women Named SMR Champions, Johnston Wins Women’s Long Jump – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Clemson women’s track and field program shined on the second day of Penn Relays as the Tigers were crowned champions in the sprint medley relay and Caroline Johnston was named the women’s long jump champion after securing first place in the event.

Johnston, who was the first to secure a first place finish on the day, jumped a personal best of 6.20 to win the event overall and be named the women’s long jump champion. The mark ties Johnston for sixth in program history as she officially adds her name to the all-time list.

Ending the day on a high-note was the unstoppable SMR group of Aleksandra Stoilova, Antoinette Van Der Merwe, Ken’Naria Gadson and Gladys Chepngetich. The four Tigers impressed in the sprint medley relay as they were first to cross the line at 3:41.41 to secure first-place and be crowned the women’s SMR champions. The time of 3:41.41 is the sixth fastest in collegiate history and Clemson becomes the fourth fastest school in event history.

Following day two, Clemson has qualified for four final events including the men’s and women’s 4×100 relay, the women’s 4×400 relay and the women’s 100m hurdles. The Tigers are back in action tomorrow, April 27 for the final day of Penn Relays as the action begins at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s discus.
