The British teenager beats the previous mark of 4:05.77 with incredible performance at British Milers Club meet in Bury

Evan Grime has set a world mile best for his age group, running 4:05.48 at the British Milers Club meet in Bury (August 26).

The teenager had already clocked 4:11.59 over the distance after his ninth place finish at the BMC Bannister Miles event earlier on in the year.

However, after taking over five seconds off his personal best, Grime has now lowered the world age 15 mile best of 4:05.77 – Corey Campbell ran that time at the Monument Mile Classic two years ago – to 4:05.48.

It means that Grime now holds the UK U17 best over the distance and he’s also in the top 10 on both UK age group lists for 800m and 1500m as well.

The 15-year-old’s quickest times over 800m, mile, 1500m and 3000m have all come this season.

He ran 1:49.69 in the 800m at the BMC meet in Manchester back in May and then followed it up with 3:47.72 over 1500m in Loughborough.

Like his mile, Grime’s fastest 3000m came in Bury, with the teenager clocking 8:26.89 for the distance earlier this month.

The Salford Harrier has raced in front of thousands of people this year, including his victory over 800m at Night of the 10,000m PBs and a seventh-placed finish in the 1500m at the European U18 Championships.

Grime, who is coached by his dad Ian, is also a regular on the cross country circuit and placed second to Joe Scanes at the most recent British Athletics Cross Challenge.
