Steely’s Personal Best Paces MSU At Live In Lou

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mississippi State was led by redshirt junior Sydney Steely at the 20th Annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic on Saturday. Behind her were a pair of freshmen to pace the Bulldog effort.

Mississippi State finished 19th in a crowded field of 44 teams, including five Power Five programs.

“This is the first time we ran our full team this year,” head coach Chris Woods said. “Coach Pat [McGregor] and myself will evaluate over the next two weeks and get ready for our next competition at Princeton.”

Steely shaved 34 seconds off her personal-best 5K to cross the line in 17:43.1. Behind her, Faith Duncan laid down a time of 18:15.8 in her collegiate debut. Meanwhile Hayley Ogle also clocked a personal-best, dropping 36 seconds of her time from two weeks ago to finish in 18:22.2.

Mary Beth Woodward and Ava Weems rounded out MSU’s top five finishers, counting toward the team score. Tekara Aimer, Emma Hossack and Ashley Melcherts also ran in Louisville.

Mississippi State returns to action in two weeks at the Princeton Invite on Oct. 16.
