Boone, N.C. – The RV/RV Florida State cross country teams will head back to Boone, N.C., to face NR/No. 29 Tennessee in a dual on Friday. The dual will be held ahead of The Firetower Project Meet.
“We’re excited to race Tennessee,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “They’re one of the top teams in the South and it’ll be good to get to know them before we square off at the NCAA Regional meet later this season. The athletes are excited for 50-degree, race-time temperatures as well.”
FSU will trek to Boone for the third and final time this season, having previously visited for preseason training, and to race in the Covered Bridge Open, an event that both squads won.
The women’s 4-mile begins at 8 a.m., and the men’s 6-mile begins shortly after at 8:30 a.m.
These will be the first 4-mile and 6-mile races of the season. Live timing will be available.
It will be the first dual since the Noles traveled to face Boston in 2018.
The Last Time Out
The Seminoles got off to a hot start, winning the Covered Bridge Open on Sept. 2, for a fifth straight time. The women secured spots two through sixth in the 5K, winning with a total of 20 points.
Fearghal Curtin led the way for the men, winning the 8K, breaking the 25-minute barrier, and earning him ACC Performer of the Week.
Noles in the Polls
The FSU women’s and men’s teams were picked to finish fourth and sixth respectively in the ACC Cross Country Coaches Preseason Poll.
However, after new faces continue to prove themselves, the Garnet and Gold look to climb the conference and national rankings week-by-week. This weekend provides them that opportunity against a talented Vols team.
The Seminoles saw no changes in the USTFCCCA South Regional Rankings, remaining at third and fourth, however, both teams received votes in the week one national poll.
The Scouting Report
Both the men’s and women’s Tennessee teams won the Tennessee Cross Country Invitational at Cherokee Farms against Chattanooga on Sept. 2.
The men scored 18 points in the 4-mile race, led by Eli Nahom (20:38.04), while the women tallied 16 points, led by Andie-Marie Jones (18:33.87) in the 3-mile run.
The men are ranked third in the South Region, while the women are fourth. The men’s team jumped to No. 29 in the week one rankings.
