BBC Sports Personality of the Year contenders
Jake Wightman has been short-listed for the top award in British sport – the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.
And now we are asking the athletics community in Scotland to get behind and give support to the World 1500m champion.
Jake won gold in Oregon to become Scotland’s first World champ since Liz McColgan some 31 years earlier.
He duly followed that with bronze for Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, silver in the 800m at the European Champs and took down Tom McKean’s long-standing 800m record towards the close of the Diamond League season.
Success landed Jake our own 4J Athlete of the Year title despite very strong claims from fellow nominees Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan.
Now BBC Sport have revealed six names on their short-list for the Sports Personality of the Year award – ahead of their annual review programme on Wednesday evening (December 21).
Voting takes place during the show (which starts at 6.45pm).
