PHILADELPHIA – Wisconsin men’s track and field sophomore Logan Measner ran a Big Ten Conference-leading time in the steeplechase to highlight action for the Badgers on the first day of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field
Measner crossed the line in 8 minutes, 37.40 seconds to finish fourth, besting Big Ten Conference rival Caleb Jarema of MIchigan, who was fifth in 8:37.84.
A native of Jackson, Wisconsin, Measner’s time ranks seventh in school history and is the fastest time in more than 20 years at UW.
Senior Ben Nibbelink was ninth in 8:47.93 in his first steeplechase of the 2024 campaign.
The day started off with a bang as Max Hartke and Pierce Seigne finished 1-2 in their section of the 1500 meters. The duo both earned personal bests as Hartke crossed the line in 3 minutes, 44.24 seconds and Seigne followed close behind at 3:44.73. They finished fifth and seventh, overall.
Micah Wilson concluded the night for the Badgers in the 5000 meters. The 2023 Big Ten Cross Country Freshmen of the Year earned a fifth-place finish, recording a personal-best time of 13:55.87.
Up Next: The Badgers will have athletes compete at the Texas Invitational on Friday in Austin, Texas, as action there is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. No Badgers are slated to compete at the Penn Relays on Friday, but UW will wrap up its time in Philadelphia on Saturday by having a 4 x Mile team compete at 11:55 a.m. CT
