Puchko, Gorlova break school records

DES MOINES, Iowa – On Friday, Apr. 26, freshman Vlad Puchko recorded the best series of his career taking down the Virginia Tech record in discus with a mark of 61.90m (203′ 1″), competing at the Drake Relays.
 
Puchko logged four throws over 60m (196′ 9″), and three over 61m, claiming first as the only athlete in the discus champ section to throw over 60m in Des Moines.
 
“Great performance by Vlad today,” said associate head coach Andrew Dubs. “I am very happy for him to have broken our school record, as this was one of his goals this season. He remained calm and focused on what he needed to do to execute his throws, one of his main goals all season. It is exciting to see him getting very consistent and we look forward to the rest of the season as we head into championships.”
 
Puchko sits fifth on the NCAA outdoor performance list with one week to go in the regular season. The Hokies championships season begins on May 8 in Atlanta, Ga. as Georgia Tech host the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
 
Katrin Brzyszkowska claimed second in the women’s shot put champ section putting 53′ 10.25″ (16.41m).  
 
In Jacksonville, senior Victoria Gorlova mastered the long jump setting her fourth school record with a distance of 21′ 7.25″ (6.58m), finishing first among collegiate athletes.
 
Gorlova’s mark ranks first in the ACC by nearly six inches over Pitts’ athlete in second, fifth in the NCAA. She currently holds the indoor and outdoor school records in both the long jump and triple jump.

Pole Vault
Tech claimed first through fourth in the women’s pole vault invite led by Chiara Sistermann in first at 13′ 7.25″ (4.15m). Kennedy Drish and Journey Gurley tied for second jumping clean through 13′ 3.5″ (4.05m). Erin Kelleher took fourth clearing the bar at a height of 13′ 3.5″ (4.05m).
 
Sophomore Conner McClure won the men’s pole vault invite clearing 17′ 3.5″ (5.27m). Harrison Rice and Maddox Hamm cleared 16′ 11.5″ (5.17m) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
