Program of the Year Final

NEW ORELANS, La. – The NC State women’s track & field and cross country teams earned their highest-ever final ranking in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Program of the Year standings, checking in at No. 4.

The Wolfpack totaled 27.5 points to place fourth. In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.

With its 2021 NCAA Cross Country title, the Pack was able to tab just one point for the cross country season. NC State went on to place ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championships for nine points and as part of a tie for 17th place at the NCAA Outdoor Championships the Wolfpack added 17.5 points to the total.

NC State’s cross country national title was its first NCAA Championship in program history, and the squad won the championship with just 84 points. All five of the Wolfpack’s scoring runners placed 32nd or higher, all attaining All-America accolades to set a program record for the most cross country All-Americans in a single season.

The indoor track & field season saw the team place ninth in the final rankings for the highest finish in program history. NC State’s women totaled five First Team All-America honors and saw its highest-ever individual finisher in any event when Katelyn Tuohy placed second in the both the 3000m and 5000m.

At the 2022 NCAA Championships, the Wolfpack tied for 17th behind top-five finishes by Tuohy and Allie Hays. Tuohy won her first career national title with a first-place finish in the 5000m, and Hays recorded a First Team All-America finish with her fifth-place finish in the 10000m.
