Walburn posts top-five all-time score, places runner-up at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas — Washington State senior multi athlete Lee Walburn finished with a career-best 7,694 point total to place runner-up in the decathlon at the 2024 Texas Relays at the site of last year’s outdoor nationals, Mike A Myers Stadium.  Now into the third weekend of the 2024 outdoor season, Walburn’s score sits as the second-best score in Division I going into the weekend, and is also the fifth-best score all-time at WSU.

Walburn finished the opening day of the decathlon with lifetime-best marks in the long jump (6.73m), shot put (14.30m), and high jump (1.93m).  His PR in the shot put was an improvement of over three feet as the native of Whitefish, Mont., started the week off with a third-place finish halfway through the two-day decathlon schedule.  He followed-up with an eighth-place finish in the 110m hurdles (15.16) to begin day two, before later launching PR’s in both the discus (47.95m) and javelin (61.26m) competitions.

Washington State men’s and women’s track and field teams continue their travel weekend tomorrow and Saturday from the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
