Thomas Matches Season-Best Pole Vault at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa. – The No. 6 Illinois women’s field team finished the first day of the Drake Relays on Friday (April 26). Junior Tori Thomas claimed second place in the pole vault champion division by tying her season-best mark of 4.37m (14-4).

Thomas’ season-best 4.37m is the program’s second-best outdoor vault too which she first cleared at the second annual Gary Wieneke Memorial two weeks ago on April 13. This marks the fourth-straight time this season she’s placed inside the top-3 for the pole vault compiling two gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Sophomore Mia Morello placed eighth in the champion division (4.07m (13-4 1/4)) while junior Kelsey Rothas placed fifth in the collegiate division with a 3.92m (12-10 1/4) clearance.

UP NEXT

The Orange and Blue hammer throwers and men’s pole vault close out the Drake Relays tomorrow (April 27). Men’s hammer throw begins at 10 a.m. CT, women’s hammer throw starts at 1:45 p.m. CT and the men’s pole vault is at 3:30 p.m. CT.
