Outdoor Season Resumes for Track & Field at Aztec Invitational Saturday


SALT LAKE CITY – With the indoor season all wrapped up, the Utah track & field team now turns its focus towards the outdoor season as it heads to San Diego this weekend for the Aztec Invitational at the Sports Deck.

ON THE BLOCKS
The Women of Utah will send a total of 16 competitors to the Aztec Invitational with Lauren Peterson, Bri Rinn and Erin Vringer representing the distance side the things. Vringer will be making her collegiate track debut after missing the indoor season in preparation for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships as a member of the Canadian U20 team. On the sprint side of things, Josefine Ericksen and Emily Martin will be making their outdoor season debut.
 
LAST TIME OUT
A total of 15 different Utes recorded new marks or PRs in Utah’s first outdoor race at the Utah Tech Invitational two weeks ago. Additionally, Utah saw five enter the all-time record books.
 
Harley Daniel cracked the top-10 in a pair of events starting with the 100m hurdles where she ran the fourth-fastest time (14.02) at Utah. Daniel then followed up with the sixth-fastest time in the 400m hurdles with a run of 59.31. Dee Denis was a tad faster than Daniel in the 400m hurdles and inserted herself into third all-time in the record books with a time of 58.12.
 
Freshman Kylie Hartnett had a great start in the 3000m race and saw herself finish with a time of 10:03.80 – which was good for seventh in the Utah record books. Meanwhile, Claire Rusovick moved into the top-10 with a mark of 10:10.49 for ninth.
 
Shana Van Elderen had a solid collegiate debut, winning the long jump with a leap of 5.94m (19-5.75) and was also victorious in the triple jump with a mark of 11.92m (39-1.25). Her long jump was good for seventh all-time while her triple jump mark was good for fourth.
 
INDOOR RECAP
Simone Plourde and Emily Venters further cemented their name into Utah cross country and track & field history books after becoming the first duo to earn All-America honors in the same year. Venters picked up her first All-America accolade in track and third overall…
